2012 - Reality or Fear Mongering
For several years now, as we approach the year 2012 individuals, and even certain groups have been prosletyzing the doom and gloom of the end of the world. But on closer examination there are some key elements to recognize.
First, that the language of the Mayans record suggests that what we will see in or around 2012 is not "the end of the world" but rather a "Great Change".
Second, several scientists cannot agree on the actual calculation of the conversion from the Mayan dates to our Gregoran dates. This suggests differentials as high as 50 years from current estimates.

That having been said, I offer some compelling notes from current history to consider: Our scientists and our records point to an increase in activity both above our heads, and beneath our feet that is growing in intesity, and severity. Clearly SOMETHING is happening, and SOMETHING is coming.
As another note, "Great Change" can come on many ways. If we look back to 3100, the last time period of the "Great Change", roughly 5000 years ago on the Mayan calendear, history shows just such a huge event: the establishment of our "current" line of civilizations. Something huge happend then.
3100bc - Enigmatic marker of 5000 year Mayan Cycle-
Of the few periods that stand out against the backdrop of human history, 3100 B.C. (+/- 100 years) is the most enigmatic. Few records survive to give us details about specific events that occurred at this time, but we do know that whatever happened then was of major consequence. It's possible that this period marks most important and decisive time in the entire history of civilization.

Does all this mean the "end of our civilization" is coming? I suspect that the jury will be out until it actually happens. But these are some compelling things to make us think.
